When my sister said she was going to call the pool people to change the sand in her pool filter, I couldn’t believe the amount of money they were asking.
I told her we could just get the sand and change it ourselves for a fraction of the cost.
She seemed interested and asked me what we would have to do. I said it was relatively simple to shopvac the sand out of the filter, we would just need to make sure to protect the main pipe from getting sand in it when we were removing the old sand and putting in the new. Also you have to put water inside the empty sand filter before pouring in new sand. Also, you have to make sure all the connections are not broken and cleaned pretty well. So we got all the sand we needed which was a lot! I believe it was 600 lbs of sand in that massive sand filter of theirs. If they would have gone through the pool company, they would have been charged approximately $2,000. In this case we were able to get a good deal on the sand and I didn’t charge my sister anything. All I asked was for some air conditioning comfort and some cold drinks. I helped her get her pool ready for a big party she was planning and she thanked me for saving her so much money. Hey, it’s my sister and she was prompt about adjusting the temperature control settings so that I could enjoy some ice-cold A/C in the house.
