My partner is a first responder. There is a particular pride that goes with those words, ‘first responder’, that you can describe. He had been working with the local fire company for over ten years now, & he has received a medal for bravery. The firefighters in our section don’t have proper minutes & most of them are volunteers. They are brave men & men who go into burning homes, just so they can help save people. My partner & his partner saved 2 young children just a couple weeks ago. Being a firefighter doesn’t spend money our bills, unluckyly. His first job, & the one he will never give up, is being a HVAC specialist. He cares about being a HVAC specialist almost as much as he cares about being a firefighter. I’m proud of him in this capacity also. I have seen him get out of bed in the middle of a blizzard & go to someone’s home so they weren’t without heat. One evening, he was called out when a family’s gas furnace died. He wasn’t able to maintenance the gas furnace instantly. I got a frantic iPhone call about bringing them to our house. They had 2 toddlers & nowhere to go. Because of a broken gas furnace, we met our best friends that evening. All of us often joke that if it hadn’t been for a broken gas furnace, he wouldn’t be a firefighter. While working as a HVAC specialist, he met Will, who was a firefighter. They were talking about how difficult the job can be, & my partner commented he had consistently wanted to be a firefighter.
